• dennis has always been a crier, ever since he was a small kid. the littlest things would set him off, such as the texture of his clothes feeling too itchy against his skin, or accidentally misplacing mr. tibbs and not being able to find him. kids at school would try to make fun of him all the time, but dee would always scare the bullies away.
  
• he always tries to make sure that his mascara is waterproof just in case - over the years, he’s gone through at least 10 different brands in his search for the perfect one (his favorite is estee lauder’s sumptuous).
• he has to let himself cry at least once a week, otherwise there’s just too much going on in his head for him to go about his day normally. it’s less unbearable now, though, since he’s taking his medications regularly.
• he (usually) cries after having sex - part of it has to do with his trauma but more often than not, it’s because of the intensity at which he feels things.
• mac is the only person who dennis is completely comfortable crying in front of (it wasn’t always this way - it used to be barbara, back when she was around, and on very rare occasions, dee). 
  
• when mac and dennis first moved into their apartment, dennis would lock himself up in the bathroom and let the faucet run if he felt the tears about to start, until one day when he forgets to shut the door and mac ends up seeing everything. “next time, come to me,” mac asks quietly, not thinking that dennis would ever take him up on that offer - and for a while, dennis doesn’t. it isn’t until the day the gang gets the news of barbara’s death that dennis wordlessly crawls into mac’s bed at 2 am, unable to sleep alone, facing away from the other man and shoulders trembling from the effort of trying to hold his tears back. “it’s okay,” mac says, and maybe it is okay, dennis hesitantly allows himself to agree, as his eyes begin to prickle and well up. 
• dennis would’ve broken down crying if he and mac had been alone when mac gave him the rpg.
